club report 2005 /

Sasha @avalon ☆☆
Very good eq technique. Once dj changed from previous dj, sound totally changed by his great eq. The sounds turned clear, but powerful. It's amazing. However, he used same technique that raise high with cutting low, back low right before the hook of the song many times. This is an well-old cliche. I like the trick, but shouldn'be used too much. But I was really excited when James Zabiela and Sasha mixed the word of " Free Pussy " long period : )

James Zabiela @ avalon ☆☆☆
Technically, he is amazing, one of the best. Unexpectable mix flow is also attractive. His choice of music is always distinctive motif ( rythem patern, tone, construction of sounds) . He always seems having fun of spinging. Especially when he jumps at the stage, it makes the atmosphere more fun.

SANDER KLEINENBERG @ avalon☆
I admire him a lot as a producer for unique sounds style. Considering mix technique, it's not so exciting especially for djs. Mixing techniq is not necessary but important to ebable to put some energy, tenshion on the tracks depends on requiring situation. He's not good on doing live.

James Zabiela @womb (Japan)☆
At the opening, it was exciting. But later on, it was melodius. Since japanese crowd
his time many songs was biased to high and low.

Jimmy Van M @yellow (japan)☆☆☆☆☆☆
technically very good. What I really loved was he played old classic house music at last. Construction of mixing, technique variety of sounds( teck ,electro, progressive, techno.) good gig. Sorry for the venue( Japanese people do not show their feedback as much American's do, therefore, he couldn't get enegized from audience.

One of the best gig in this year for me. Good timing of break, good eq. Good mixing was giving the tracks more tension, so it sounded more powerful and energized than original. The asmosphere was all in one!!

good choice of tracks, but boring mixing. a few unmatched of pitch. Bad balance of eq. Even though the gig was the first gig of his new album of lights out tour, he seemed he wasn't excited. If a dj isn't excited himself, he can't get crowd excited.
This is essential facts for dj. (Even if John Digweed get excited, he wouldn't jump though. But I really like to see djs who got excited.
Technically, he did some trick of delay, put some snare sounds or boost high at peak. But no inovative tricks. Be honest, I was so dissapointed.

Gabriel & Dresden @ circus ☆ 11/13/05
I was expected great set cuz they are popular right now in the scene.
But from the beginning, what they played were songs in chart. To make matters worse, they mixed those tracks doesn't match the each other. Sequence is not interesting. Tracks they play is more melory-oriented and not groovy. Over all, I couldn't feel them.
By the way, they used ableton live at the set. I could see what djs do from back side at this club. Putting curtian between the booth and back yard, I barely watch the djs did this time. That also gave me negative feeling.

Nic Fanciulli @ Monday social ☆
The set was suitable for small lounge. I also wonder I'd get excited for this talented producer. What he chose to play was OK. But I couldn't feel any energy or power from his set. Good djs break great vibe by mixing. But I couldn't feel anything.

I've gone through above things in this year. I more inclined from deep house to progressive and Nu breaks. Since I have the space, which is seen by many people, I wonder to report what I listen, see, think.

Please get this wrong. This is feedback for certain gig. It could be sounds good for somebody, or the dj may be able to have good gig depends on the situation.
I'll up-date detail later on.
